Mona Bormet grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and is a devoted and effective project manager in the field of Public Health. Very timely topics: managing projects and public health. She serves as Program Director for Christian Connections for International Health (CCIH), currently managing five grants focused on family planning, maternal, newborn and child health, nutrition, and WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene). She also directs the 30x30 health systems strengthening initiative (the CCIH effort to strengthen 30 health systems in which faith-based health services operate, by 2030) as well as CCIH’s annual conference. This is a lot of project management. We think it’s remarkable that Mona began working with CCIH as an individual member and volunteer, invited to join the staff in 2009, first focused on US advocacy efforts.
Previously, Mona served as Advocacy Program Specialist for the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum where she focused on national policy efforts to improve data collection and analysis for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander populations. She spearheaded efforts to collect and share individual’s health care stories in the policy arena; and facilitated advocacy trainings.
She also served as the Outreach & Research Manager at the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC). Mona earned the degree of Master of Public Health from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health after completing her undergraduate work at the Illinois State University and is also a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES). Mona currently works for CCIH from Nairobi, Kenya. She joins us from there today.
